Puerto Rican Day Parade New York City Sunday June 13 |
More than 2 million
spectators are expected to line the parade route along New
York City's Fifth Avenue from 44th Street to 86th Street (June
13, 11am-5pm EDT) as marchers, bands and colorful music and
dance-filled floats honor Puerto Rican contributions and culture.
More than 80,000 participants including many celebrities and
political leaders are expected to march.

Puerto Rico has a variety
of flags: the current national flag which represents the Commonwealth
of Puerto Rico, municipal banners to represent its numerous regions,
political flags for the varied political ideologies of the people,
and sports flags which Puerto Rico uses during sports and athletic
competitions. The
history of the current Puerto Rican flag goes all the way back
to 1868.

Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court has been a source of pride
among local Puerto Ricans and is sparking discussion of their future
political role in South Florida.

When Nydia Menéndez, president of the Florida Puerto Rican
Bar Association, received an e-mail from Gov. Charlie Crist's Senate
campaign stating he would not support the Supreme Court confirmation
of Judge Sonia Sotomayor, she immediately started shooting e-mails
to friends, to family, to anyone who would listen.

my vote.''

UCTP Taino News
- In collaboration with Presencia Taina TV, and Indigenous Peoples
Literature, the United Confederation of Taino people has announced
the launching of the TAINO TV Network. This historic project, which
uses new media outreach mechanisms such as You Tube will assist
the UCTP in its focus on using communications technology to increase
the visibility of the Taino and other Caribbean Indigenous Peoples
internationally.
"From the
new Taino TV site as well as other media launch points already developed
such as Presencia Taina TV, we will be providing visual services
never before available to our community and others who are interested
in cultural heritage of the Caribbean region" stated Roger
Atihuibancex Hernandez, founder of the Presencia Taina TV project.
