1st Annual South Bronx Folk Festival
December 10-11, 2010

Diversity in Arts and Nations for Cultural Education, Inc. (DANCE), in collaboration with Casita Maria Center for Arts and Education (CASITA), will present the first South Bronx Folk Festival on December 10-11, 2010. The Festival will take place annually, beginning with this December’s debut performance.The goal is to highlight the cultural diversity of our community, while also showcasing a shared folklore and tradition in performance. This year’s inaugural festival will feature Danza Fiesta: Baile y Teatro Puertorriqueño, a Puerto Rican folk performance troupe. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 10, 7:30PM

Danza Fiesta will perform their colorful ‘Estampas de de la Montaña’ to the coastal sounds of plenas.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 11, 3:00PM

Danza Fiesta will perform ‘Bomba’, and conduct a lecture demonstration about the history and tradition behind this bold Puerto Rican folk dance to music heavily influenced by African ryhthms, with a strong drum presence. Students from DANCE Childrens Dance Project will also perform.

Details: The Festival is open to the public with a $5.00 suggested donation.
All proceeds will go towards next year’s festival!
