They call me La Lupe starring LAUREN VELEZ
Dura Vida Productions in collaboration with Teatro LATEA in NYC is extremely excited to present the multiple award winning actress and star of Showtime’s hit series Dexter, Lauren Velez, in “They Call Me La Lupe;” the rags to riches life story of the Cuban musical sensation, La Lupe this January in New York City. The one-woman show was written by James Manos, Jr., the Emmy award winning writer of The Sopranos, and Luis Caballero and it will be directed by Veronica Caicedo.
“They Call Me La Lupe” is the story of the dynamic, freewheeling, uncontainable, but brilliant Cuban singer. Having no choice she fled to NY where she sang with the likes Tito Puente and Mongo Santa Maria and became the queen of Latin music starting her own musical Latin revolution. She met with fame and riches and became the first Latin woman to sing in Carnegie Hall. But her spirit, passion and quest for freedom ultimately led to her downfall.
