San Juan Dining - Incredible
Diversity
Visiting Puerto Rico
is an incredible getaway. Sandy beaches, ocean kayaking, jungle
exploration and luxurious resorts all await your enjoyment. However,
you will have to eat during your stay. While resorts and hotel on
the island usually offer dining options, you can head off property
for other options. You'll find a wide array of local options, as
well as restaurants featuring international fare. Here are some
of the best local hotspots, scattered around San Juan.
La
Casita Blanca - This local favorite is incredibly popular. Jesus
Perez, the owner, is almost always on property, checking on the
satisfaction of his guests. You will find incredible regional fare
(the Mofongo is incredible), while you will also find international
dishes for the less adventurous. Be prepared for lines at peak dining
times; the restaurant is popular with locals, visitors and even
government types. Bring cash, as well, as the restaurant does not
accept any credit cards.
La
Bombonera - Looking for a great breakfast or brunch option? La Bombonera
offers you incredible fare at reasonable rates. The restaurant was
founded in 1902 and is famous for homemade pastries, never ending
coffee and interesting regional cuisine. Rice with squid, roast
pork leg, flan and more make up the lunch menu, while the breakfast
menu offers additional choices. You will find a bustling but friendly
atmosphere, as well as numerous locals who know that this is one
of the best places to dine.
The Parrot Club - Featuring
Nuevo Latino cuisine, this is a local hotspot. You will find incredible
Caribbean cuisine, done up with Latin flair. A full bar, a seasonal
menu and incredible service gives you great options. Make sure you
bring your wallet, as the dishes can be somewhat expensive. However,
despite the relative cost, the food is good enough to attract locals,
business types and vacationing families.
Café Berlin -
This bakery offers you a taste of Germany and Switzerland and Puerto
Rico, rolled into one. Breads, pastries, sweets and much more are
made fresh on property, giving you that warm, crusty goodness that
you crave. Prices are low to moderate, making this an excellent
spot for a quick breakfast, or a snack. The European décor
is unique in the city, while the service is more than friendly.
Hard Rock Café
- For those looking for more traditional American fare, the Hard
Rock Café is easy to get to. Tourists are the predominant
visitors to the restaurant, though you will find locals, as well.
This restaurant features classic American fare, rock music and memorabilia
and a fun setting.
